Don’t trust this book. Don’t trust this story. Don’t trust yourself.
David and Adele seem like the ideal pair. He's a successful psychiatrist, she is his picture-perfect wife who adores him. But why is he so controlling? And why is she keeping things hidden?
As Louise, David's new secretary, is drawn into their world, she uncovers more puzzling questions than answers. The only thing that is crystal clear is that something in this marriage is very, very wrong. But Louise can't guess how wrong – and how far someone might go to protect their marriage's secrets.
This arc was received from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Behind Her Eyes is definitely not your typical Thriller. This isn’t the next Gone Gone and it definitely isn’t The Girl on the Train. It rips a giant hole through the realm of ordinary and begins to toe the line between reality and magical realism.
This book was addictive.
Dripping in deceit and manipulation, and lingering in a past that unearths itself in the present, the plot was cleverly structured and masterfully written. So masterful and clever, in fact, that not a single person that reads this book will see the perpetrator coming. But if you do, I apologise for such a gross exaggeration (but seriously, you probably won’t and I mean that honestly).
I was intrigued by this book from the get go – trying to piece the puzzle together, fragment by fragment, figuring about what exactly was going on behind a facade of marital perfection. This book left me shaking, urging Laura (my main fav) to do the opposite of everything she was doing because she was aboard the crazy train and it was only going to get more twisted.
When the publishers marketed this book as #WTFThatEnding, they weren’t bullshitting you. Oh boy, were they not. I can safely say I put my iPad down on the table and asked myself “wtf was that?” because I truly had no other words for it. I don’t think I’ve ever felt quite so unsettled or disturbed over how a book has ended before, and it definitely won’t be an ending I’ll forget anytime soon.
If you happen to come across this title or are still debating whether you want to add it to your tbr pile/read it… do it! If at the end of 2017, Behind Her Eyes, isn’t recognised as one of the best books/thrillers to be released that year I’ll be amazed. Addictive and full of intrigue and misconception, this genre breaking read is really one that thriller fans should not miss.
